Ideya Latin Bistro Review SoHo (New York, NY)

Ideya Latin Bistro, located in New York City’s SoHo district, has perfected the culinary confluence of Spanish, African and indigenous ingredients that characterizes Caribbean Latin cuisine.

Located on West Broadway, between Grand & Broome Street, we dined at Ideya for lunch after visiting SoHo shopping haunts like Wooster Street Social Club, Bloomingdales, DASH, Topshop, Aritzia (yes Vancouverites, there’s a location in NY!), and Saturdays Surf NYC – just to name a few.

We enjoyed indoor/outdoor dining – great for people watching while taking in the hot and sunny NYC summer afternoon.

With its warm tropical beach house vibe, complete with Spanish music, Ideya is a popular cocktail stop because its drinks burst with Cuban flavors. They claim to have the best mojitos in all of New York City! “Home of the Perfect Mojito”, Ideya Latin Bistro has seven different mojitos to choose from, including enticing tropical fruit flavors like guava, coconut and mango, it was difficult to make a decision.

I finally decided on a traditional Mojito The Best in Neuva York (regular $10, grande $12) to see if it could live up to its boastful name – Don Q crystal white rum, sugar, fresh lime juice, and fragrant mint leaves. Muddled to perfection, it was indeed a terrifically crafted mojito.

Ensalada de Pollo ($12.00) – Mixed greens, sautéed chicken, tomato, red onion, mango, crumbled queso blanco, with a Chardonnay salad dressing. Although an excellent meal, Gary found a piece of rock mixed in the dish, so we brought it to the attention of our server. She quickly remedied the situation and asked if we would like a complimentary dessert, but we politely declined since we were too full from our delicious meals. Wanting to rectify the situation (clearly an oversight like rocks in food doesn’t often occur at this lovely restaurant), our server kindly removed the price of a mojito off our final bill.

Tortilla Wrap ($11.00) – Grilled chicken, green and red peppers, spicy ancho chile sauce, with a side mixed green salad. The menu description did not explain that this was a cooked/hot tortilla wrap, so I was expecting a cold sandwich, with raw red and green peppers, instead of sauteed. Despite my expectations, this was an excellent dish, bursting with spice and flavors, with perfectly-cooked juicy pieces of sautéed chicken breast, and fresh greens.

Overall, Ideya Latin Bistro offers a lovely SoHo location and upbeat ambiance, deliciously flavorful Caribbean-influenced dishes, friendly service, and certainly does serve the perfect mojito!
