Tossed restaurants, founded in 1998 in New York City, are renowned for their ultra-fresh, made-to-order gourmet salads featuring over 50 choices of toss-ins, along with signature dressings, soups, whole wheat crepe wraps, and sandwiches & paninis served on artisan bread.
Tossed’s original location on Manhattan’s Park Avenue in NYC was voted “New York’s Best Salad” by New York magazine. Its “Eat Smart Think Fresh” philosophy has resonated in city after city across the United States, and the chain is in the midst of a major expansion and is currently in the process of opening locations in Boston, Los Angeles, Boca Raton, Chicago, and Washington DC.
Tossed’s first Canadian location recently opened on Hornby Street in downtown Vancouver. The franchise is “one of the freshest, and most exciting concepts in fast casual dining”. In addition to its innovative menu and customizable options, Tossed offers online ordering, delivery and catering. Additionally, the company intends to work closely with farmers and bakeries to bring locally produced food products to its Vancouver location.
We had the opportunity to experience Vancouver’s Tossed because they kindly mailed us gift cards to come and try-out their restaurant, on them. Situated near The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (Griffins Restaurant and 900 West Lounge) and right beside Caffe Artigiano, Tossed is a bright and cheerful space. A large, detailed, easy-to-read menu is conveniently located on the wall by the front counter, which makes ordering a breeze. To start, we chose a few beverages – a refreshing lemonade San Pellegrino soda and a thick Strawberry Smoothie, followed by a fresh salad to share, sandwich and crepe wrap.
Apple Walnut Salad – A generous portion of chopped romaine hearts, roasted chicken, apples pieces, crumbled blue cheese, walnuts and sweet golden raisins with honey balsamic vinaigrette. We requested the salad dressing on the side so we could control the amount of vinaigrette. We’d recommend doing the same as everyone has a different preference regarding the ideal portion of dressing.
Turkey and Avocado Sandwich – Smoked turkey slices, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, avocado and baby field greens with fat free honey dijon dressing on fresh and soft multigrain ciabatta bread (or white ciabatta bread if you’d prefer). Pictured below is the Turkey Crepe Wrap – which includes diced smoked turkey, smoked bacon, romaine hearts and chopped tomatoes with mayo on a thin, whole wheat crepe.
