Fairmont Hotel Vancouver – Afternoon Tea At The Castle

Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver (on the corner of West Georgia & Hornby Street), The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver offers daily Afternoon Tea in their 900 West Lounge.

High Tea At The Castle is ‘steeped’ in Victorian tradition: The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s traditional Afternoon Tea includes multiple varieties of Fairmont loose leaf teas, scrumptious petit sandwiches, delectable pastries, heavenly house-made scones and fresh strawberries with Devonshire cream.

Their signature Fairmont Teas are blended exclusively by The Metropolitan Tea Company: We chose Fairmont Breakfast – full-bodied flavor cup with burgundy depth & malt highlights. And the aromatic Fairmont Earl Grey – the very best Earl Grey available, including all natural bergamot flavoring with seasonal high mountain grown Ceylon Tea.

Fine porcelain china and luxurious silver cutlery, teapots and condiment holders were beautiful serving vessels for our food and drink.

While relaxing in soft wingback chairs, sipping our teas and admiring the beautiful architecture, two-tiers of tasty treats arrived at our table. The lower tier consisted of savory petit sandwiches, including warm mini croissants filled with maple ham, brie cheese and dijon mustard; West Coast smoked salmon with dill cream cheese on a dark rye bread; curry chicken salad on French baguette; mini crust-less cucumber sandwiches.

The second tier consisted of a plate of desserts and sweet items, including freshly baked raisin scones (perfection) served with Devonshire clotted cream, fresh strawberries and berry preserves; chocolate eclairs; Fairmont’s famous mini blueberry cheesecake; petit lemon tarts.

I will note that we had a Groupon (or Living Social deal, don’t recall which one) that made our afternoon tea half price. Our server was aware that we were receiving a discount, but still demonstrated impeccable service — that’s what you can count on from a luxury hotel & resort chain like Fairmont — consistency, standards and first-class service.

The atmosphere was sophisticated, yet very comfortable – even kids are more than welcome at The Castle: If your tiny tot wants to tag along, they offer $18.00 Children’s Bubblegum Tea for kids twelve and under.

Additionally, those seeking a twist on tradition can enjoy a Champagne Tea experience by adding a glass of Piper Heidseick, for $17.00 extra. Also, if you adore one of the exquisite teas your sipped during your afternoon, you can recreate your own experience at home by purchasing a tin of loose leaf Fairmont tea for $12.00.

Not only did our server provide top-notch attentive and professional service, he went above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect time at the Castle. When he overheard that it was my birthday, he brought us glasses of champagne, and at the end of the afternoon, he presented me with a canister of the Fairmont Earl Grey tea as a gift so we could enjoy my favorite flavour at home. Very sweet gestures!

Overall, every bite, every sip at Fairmont’s Afternoon Tea was pure joy. If you adore afternoon tea, then we would highly recommend High Tea at the Castle as it is the best high tea we have ever had. We even enjoyed our experience more than at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria – a terrific afternoon tea in its own right.

FYI: High Tea at the Castle in The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s 900 West Lounge costs $36.00 per person (plus tax and gratuity) and reservations are strongly encouraged, only by calling 604-662-1900.
