For almost a quarter of a century the Rumrunner Pub & Restaurant has occupied its scenic setting along the Sidney waterfront at picturesque Port Sidney Marina on Vancouver Island. Locals and tourists alike marvel at the unforgettable views of the ocean, Gulf & San Juan Islands and Mount Baker while they enjoy company of friends and family over drinks.
The large restaurant and bar both have fireplaces to warm up patrons during the cooler weather, and in summer months the two outdoor patios allow diners the opportunity to enjoy sunshine and sea breezes. At the full-service bar, customers can choose from a large selection of alcoholic beverages — local and import beer in the bottle and on tap, as well as a wide selection of wines. A variety of lunch and dinner dishes are available to order if patrons are hungry. Here are a few of the menu options:
Calamari ($10.50) – A smaller portion than we anticipated, this dish consisted of Mediterranean spiced squid marinated with sweet onion and peppers, quick fried, and served on tzatziki sauce.
Bay Shrimp and Crab Salad ($16.50) – Bay shrimp and imitation crab stuffed avocado, cambozola cheese, hard boiled egg, smoked bacon, tomato and cucumber on artisan greens. Served with a choice of herb and orange, maple balsamic, roasted red pepper and feta cheese, blue cheese, Italian, or ranch salad dressings.
Chicken Pot Pie ($15.00) – Chunks of chicken simmered with fresh vegetables and then sealed shut with puff pastry and baked until golden.
Cioppino ($25.00) – A fresh selection of seasonal seafood including (but not limited to) snapper, Salt Spring Island mussels, little neck clams, white stripe prawns, Pacific halibut and wild coho salmon simmered in vegetable fennel tomato broth. Seafood items in this dish can change daily, so it’s best to ask your server exactly what you’ll be receiving before you order.
This was an additional entrée selection featured on the restaurant’s “Today’s Fresh Sheet” menu for market price. It contained a substantial portion of grilled vegetables, panko crusted sole fillet topped with imitation crab meat and a classic béarnaise sauce.
