We usually try and hit up as many Chipotles as possible during our trips to the States (yeah, we’re crazy like that). Their Northgate Mall location is superb – consistent food (large portions, great quality) and excellent service (friendly, quick, and efficient).
Chipotle Mexican Grill only uses the freshest of ingredients, so none of its restaurants have freezers, microwave ovens, or even can openers. Chipotle’s simple menu consists of only a handful of items: burritos, fajita burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, and salads. The price of the items is based on the type of meat chosen: a choice of chicken, pork carnitas, barbacoa, or steak. Barbacoa is one of our favorites, as it is so tender, falls apart and melts in your mouth. It’s spicy, shredded beef, slowly braised for hours in a blend of chipotle chili pepper adobo, toasted cumin, cloves, garlic and fresh oregano, until tender and moist.
I love burritos and tacos, but they can both get super sloppy. So, I always order the burrito bowl, which is a excellent no-mess alternative – easily eaten with a fork, “it’s a burrito in a bowl filled with dreams”! I’m pretty sure you get the best bang for your buck with a burrito bowl, especially if you’re lucky enough to get an employee with a heavy hand. You can customize your bowl the way you like it, with varieties of salsa, cheese, sour cream, cilantro rice, lettuce, pinto or black beans, and your choice of meat. Dee-lish.
Apart from the eco-friendly things the company does (as I discussed here), they also care about those who rely on special diets. No matter what your unique dietary needs are, Chipotle has options for you: Vegetarian (if you do eat dairy, their cheese is made with a vegetable-based rennet, and their sour cream is 100% cultured cream), vegan (avoid their pinto beans because they are cooked with bacon), and gluten intolerance/celiac disease options (employees will change their gloves to avoid cross-contamination of flour with your corn tortillas).
We’ve eaten at a variety of Chipotles in California, Arizona and Washington state – and none have ever failed to satisfy our Tex-Mex desires!
