The gorgeous Cadeaux Bakery is one of the newest editions to the Gastown culinary scene. Located on Powell near Main Street, Cadeaux Bakery was opened by Chambar veterans Eleanor Chow and Slavita Johnson. They serve coffee & tea and make a large selections of tantalizing baked goods such as sweet and savoury croissants, a variety of cookies, tarts, individual cheesecakes, and brioche – just to name a few. Feel like reminiscing about your childhood? Try their PB & J Cupcakes!
All of these scrumptious treats are baked daily in their open kitchen, allowing customers to view the delectable goodies at all stages of creation. Not only are Cadeaux Bakery’s pastries delightful to look at, so is the space itself. The bakery/cafe was beautifully designed, with a bright and calming white and grey colour scheme.
For beverages, we ordered a small Latte that was nice and strong, and topped with dense milk foam. However, I’m convinced that they gave me their largest size, since the cup was so ginormous! We also tried a fragrant English Breakfast Tea served in pretty gold rimmed china.
It was très difficile to choose from the array of tempting baked goods, but we finally decided on a few treats: Passion Meringe Tartlet which possessed perfect peaks and was bursting with bright passion fruit flavour. The coconut passion white chocolate Truffle was a little creamy bite of joy. Chocolate Croissant had the right amount of flakiness, while the Salted Carmel Brownie had lovely pieces of white chocolate chunks and the appropriate amount of saltiness and sweetness.
