Bleue Coyote Pub Review (Brentwood Bay, BC)

Bleue Coyote Bar & Grill is located in Brentwood Bay, a small neighbourhood in the municipality of Central Saanich on Vancouver Island. If you’re visiting, it’s situated just north of Victoria and south of Sidney, and approximately five minutes from the world-famous Butchard Gardens.

Bleue Coyote is a classic neighbourhood pub that draws crowds of locals for sporting events with its eleven flat-screen TVs, a hundred-inch projector, and sixteen beer taps! My mom mentioned she had heard Bleue Coyote was a great pub and that she knows the owners. The pub recently underwent a new management change, so I’m not sure if she knows the new or former owners. Regardless, we all stopped in for dinner one evening while my hubby and I were visiting my family on the island.

Feeling like a lighter supper, I ordered the Prawn & Pear Salad that included roasted red bell peppers, crumbled feta cheese, green and red leaf lettuce, sliced cucumbers, poached pear, and crunchy prawns. Even though it was a light dish, it was actually quite filling and I was very satisfied with my meal.

My brother also ordered a salad consisting of charbroiled chicken breast, lettuce, fresh cucumbers, sliced sweet red onions, red bell peppers, tossed in a lovely Bleue Coyote vinaigrette. He enjoyed the salad but was still hungry after his meal. It actually worked out perfectly because he finished the rest of dad’s generously-portioned dish!

After seeing tonnes of delicious looking pizzas coming out of the kitchen, my mom decided on the Hawaiian Pizza – Honey ham, pineapples, mixed cheese and fire-roasted tomato sauce. With hand-tossed dough and plenty of toppings, she was more than happy with her pizza choice. Regularly $11.95, but this same pizza only costs $8.95 on “Pizza Thursdays”.

Gary opted for Chicken & Ribs – Honey garlic chicken wings and barbecued pork ribs served with crispy French fries and creamy coleslaw. The perfect meal for a meatarian like himself, my hubby appreciated the generous portions of both proteins.

Dad, who also loves his meat n’ potatoes, ordered the Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding – A massive serving of AAA oven roasted beef and fresh baked Yorkshire pudding smothered with rich beef gravy. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted seasonal vegetables (green bell peppers, yams and beets) for $12.95. During Saturday brunch from 11:00am to 2:00pm, the identical dish is only $10.95.

Thursdays and Saturdays aren’t their only special days, every day of the week at Bleue Coyote offers different daily food and drink specials that keep locals coming back for more. Mondays are 39¢ wing night (minimum ten per order) with a whopping eight different flavours to choose from: hot, bbq, honey garlic, dry pepper, lemon pepper, sweet chili Thai, teriyaki or bleue moon, while Tuesdays offer very reasonably-priced $3 single and $5.50 double hi-balls.

Overall, Blue Coyote serves generous portions of tasty pub style food in a friendly and casual environment. Check it out the next time you’re in Brentwood Bay!
