Stumbling upon Puerto Vallarta Amigos food truck at Uptown Mall in Victoria last week, we learned that they actually have two other locations — another food truck located in the heart of Downtown Victoria on the corner of Yates & Wharf Street, and a floating restaurant on Fisherman’s Warf.
Quesadilla ($7.50) – Originating in colonial Mexico and deriving its name from the Spanish word queso, meaning “cheese”, this flour tortilla was filled with a choice of ingredients, cheese, and then folded in half and cut in two. I opted for the chicken fajitas filling, consisting of grilled chicken fried with onions, chopped red and green bell peppers, garlic and all flavoured with their blend of Mexican spices. This was a tasty quesadilla and a generous portion.
Tacos ($7.50) – This ain’t Taco Bell — these are authentic Mexican tacos — and tacos are what Puerto Vallarta Amigos are famous for. This order has 6 soft corn tortillas with a choice of any filling, topped with cilantro and onion. Gary opted for two chicken, two beef barbacoa (pulled beef sirloin tenderized to perfection with added traditional Mexican spices from their family recipe), and two chopped pork tacos (pulled pork marinated in their home-made “chile guajillo” paste).
To kick you meal up a notch, Puerto Vallarta Amigos offers two types of specialty housemade salsas – either mild Salsa Verde (avocado and cilantro) or their spicy Salsa Roja (tomato and chillies), which were both delicious. Overall, Puerto Vallarta Amigos is a great little spot to grab a quick and tasty Mexican lunch, at reasonable prices. Check out one of their three locations!
