Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen – VANEATS.ca ‘SIDDHARTHA’S NIRVANA’ Dining Package Preview

Kevin and Billy, the masterminds behind VANEATS.ca, have joined forces with Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen to bring Vancouver’s hungry public their latest dining package: SIDDHARTHA’S NIRVANA! Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen is located on Commercial Drive and is a cozy restaurant with a zen-like atmosphere.

We often order a Mango Lassi at Indian restaurants so of course we had to try one at Siddharthat’s. This one was very thick in texture with a dominant yogurt flavour and a subtle taste of mango. Additionally, we ordered a Coke since it was a rare sunny day in Vancouver and sometimes nothing refreshes more than Coca-Cola Classic!

The owner told us we could get Coke anywhere and suggested that we also try the Chai Tea since it’s one of Siddharthat’s specialties. He was correct – the chai was indeed delicious. Very sweet and creamy with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs – strong overtones of cinnamon, star anise and cloves were present.

We explained that we would first sample the dining package and then see how hungry we were and order more food accordingly. However, the owner kindly presented us with a Tandoori Platter — not included with the VANEATS.ca dining pass — but a lovely gesture. The platter consisted of tandoori chicken and a tofu vegetable kebab on a bed of salad. Combined with the package, this tasty protein-packed platter was a very generous portion of food and certainly satisfying.

Here is what SIDDHARTHA’S NIRVANA seven course dining package does contain:

  1. Monsoon Scallops
  2. Chicken Tikka Masala
  3. Vegetable Pakora
  4. Butter Chicken
  5. Baigan Bharta
  6. Onion and Cilantro Naan
  7. Ras Malai

The first platter of the package consisted of Vegetable Pakora – batter fried marinated mixed veggies on the left. In the middle is the Monsoon Scallops – seared with mango & coconut – an *EXCLUSIVE* VANEATS.ca appetizer in the middle. On the far right was Chicken Tikka Masala – tender chicken pieces marinated in yogurt and spices cooked in our tandoori oven.

A large portion of Onion and Cilantro Naan was also included and was fresh baked, buttered Indian flatbread topped with fresh onion & cilantro.

From left to right, this trio platter consisted of Baigan Bharta, smoked, roasted eggplant cooked with tomato, onion, cilantro, spices & a hint of lemon. Followed by fluffy steamed basmati rice, and Butter Chicken, the classic favourite – boneless marinated chicken pieces cooked in a rich tomato cream sauce. Siddhartha’s is considered a “healthier” Indian restaurant since they don’t use a lot of oil – sometimes none at all – like the eggplant dish. Therefore you won’t feel that ‘heavy’ feeling after consuming all this food. You could enjoy this dining pass after yoga class and still feel great!

For dessert, Ras Malai was served which is a heavenly Indian delicacy in light milky syrup made from the purest form of cottage cheese. Topped with a strawberry, this tempting treat was nice and light and the perfect ending to the meal.
