Solly’s is a Jewish family Bakery and Deli, offering a variety of traditional baked goods and deli items, served in a warm homey atmosphere with neighbourly service. With three locations around Vancouver, this Kitsilano bakery/deli on West Broadway near MacDonald is the second shop we visited. See our review of Solly’s Mt. Pleasant location here.
We needed a quick bite to eat for before our flight to Hawaii a few weeks ago and were going to stop in at Benny’s Bagels. Unfortunately, Benny’s was closed that day, so we went a little further down the street and noticed that Solly’s was indeed open for business.
Solly’s signature product is their bagels, which are boiled and baked in the traditional way. Solly’s bagels are crusty on the outside and dense and chewy on the inside. They come in a variety of traditional and non-traditional flavours. Since it was breakfast time, we ordered a couple of bagel breakfast sandwiches: Rusty Eggel ($4.95) – This breakfast sandwich included sliced pastrami with melted edam or cheddar cheese on top of scrambled egg on a choice of bagel (poppyseed), and an orange slice on the side.
Plain Eggel ($3.95) – A choice of melted edam or cheddar cheese on top of scrambled egg on your bagel of choice. This breakfast sandwich on a multigrain bagel was the same as the Rusty Eggel, but didn’t contain any meat. Both sandwiches were very satisfying and made fresh to order.
Overall, Solly’s Bagelry provides quick and friendly service and is an excellent spot to enjoy not only bagels, but other baked goods at any time of the day. Check it out!
