Prestons – ‘FIRST IMPRESTONS’ Dining Package Preview’s latest dining package features Prestons restaurant, located in downtown Vancouver at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. We previously visited Prestons for their fall menu media tasting event (seen here) and adored the food they had to offer. Remember those Hong Kong Baby Back Ribs? Wow, they were incredible!

The awesome guys from invited us to preview this pass and sample its tasty offerings. Having thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Prestons, we were excited to feast on the “FIRST IMPRESTONS” dining package. So what does it contain and is it worth purchasing? This five-dish offering consists of an appetizer platter of three scrumptious starters, a choice of one hearty main course, and decadent dessert – all for a very reasonable price:

  1. Dungeness Crab Cake
  2. Prestons Pulled Pork Poutine
  3. Chicken Karaage
  4. A choice of:
    • 1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs
    • BC Halibut Wrapped in Double Smoked Bacon
  5. Maple and Double Smoked Bacon Creme Brulee

To start, the appetizer trio includes a Dungeness Crab Cake breaded with with panko crumbs, tangy tomato dressing, micro herb garnish, and fried capers; Prestons Pulled Pork Poutine is served with crispy French fries, squeaky Quebec cheese curds, rich Rickards Red Gravy; Chicken Karaage consists of garlic sake marinated chicken, flash fried and then served with spicy sambal lime aioli and miso cabbage slaw. Loved the addition of microgreens as they always add a touch of sophistication to a dish. This is a fantastic taste of three of Prestons’ most popular appys, each well-executed and packed with flavour.

For the main course, we chose the 1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs with sweet hoisin & ginger glazed pork ribs, roasted fingerling potatoes, and crunchy coleslaw. (If you’d prefer fish, the BC Halibut Wrapped in Double Smoked Bacon is served with creamed leeks, quinoa, and honey shallot j’us). A well-sized portion, this heavenly meat is buttery soft, exceptionally tender and just falls right off the bone!

Something different and certainly unexpected is on the menu for dessert: Maple and Double Smoked Bacon Creme Brulee – served with julienne slices of pickled granny smith apple and sliced strawberry. This is a love-or-hate it dish! Some diners might not appreciate this sweet-meat combination, but others will absolutely go crazy for this epic(mealtime) creme brulee. To accompany Prestons’ FIRST IMPRESTONS, we ordered some beverages and a couple other dishes since we were starving that evening. I ordered the Paper Boy martini ($9.00) because “it always delivers”. At 20 ounces, I’d say this cocktail more than delivers – it includes Beefeater gin, cassis, blueberry liqueur, muddled blueberries, mind and is finished with apple juice. Strong and sweet, just the way I like ’em.Steak Bites ($12.00) – Angus beef morsels in a sweet hoisin and ginger glaze, served with a side mustard dip. A generous portion of tender meat cooked medium, with plenty of tasty dipping sauce.

Pulled Pork Sliders ($12.00) – These were actually on special that night for the Canucks game for only two dollars per slider and we ordered four of them. They each contain slow cooked pork with homemade bbq sauce, gorgonzola coleslaw on a toasted mini hamburger bun. Easy to eat and a great dish to share!

Overall, service was excellent at Prestons and they’re very responsive on Twitter and Facebook if you ever have questions or comments. If you’re never been to Prestons before, then FIRST IMPRESTONS is a superb way to experience the restaurant’s tasty dishes at a great price!
