This place is certainly authentic – workers actually have French accents and really know their stuff! The contemporary patisserie offers delectable French baked goods such as Chausson aux Pommes, Brioche Parisienne, and Galette des Princes, just to name a few. Along with pain, viennoiseries and pastries, Faubourg’s coffee shop selection includes fine sandwiches made from freshly baked bread, delicious coffees (from award-winning Musetti roasters) and an exquisite array of teas (from world-renowned Mariage Frères).
After reading numerous positive reviews, we were in Kerrisdale, noticed Faubourg and decided to pop in to scope it out. As we had just consumed a huge breakfast, we didn’t have room for much more, so we ordered a couple pastries to see what all the fuss was about. My heavens, were they ever delicious!
A sublime Pain au Chocolat had a light, slightly crispy, golden-brown exterior and a sweet and flaky interior. Faubourg’s heavenly Almond Croissant was sweet, nutty and buttery, and this French pastries was delicately layered (I even enjoyed it more than the famous Thomas Haas almond croissant!).
Towards the back part of the establishment is their lovely Bistro dining room where they offer breakfast, a la carte lunch menus, and brunch on Saturdays & Sundays. From noon until 5:00pm daily, two afternoon tea variations are available to choose from – either the Pink Afternoon Tea ($25.50) or Purple Afternoon Tea ($16.00). I will definitely return to try one of them!
