Pulled Pork Showdown At 2012 BC Home & Garden Show!

Eating in Vancouver was invited by the great folks at Take Aim Media and Tait PR to the media launch party for the 2012 BC Home & Garden Show. One of the signature opening events for the launch was the exciting ‘Pulled Pork Competition’ where Memphis Blues pugilists, Park Heffelfinger and George Siu, fought to defend their Pulled Pork Title at BC Place Stadium.

It has been just over 10 years since the visionary pair brought authentic Southern barbeque to the vegan wilds of Vancouver. And their food has been embraced by customers and fans in their home city and far beyond.

Numerous accolades and awards have come their way, and thousands of stomachs have been succulently satiated. But on February 22nd, they faced perhaps their biggest challenge yet.

The boys from Memphis Blues Barbeque House pit their acclaimed pulled pork against two challengers for the title: Re-Up BBQ, and North Vancouver native Robert Luft of Food Network Canada’s ‘Recipe to Riches’ fame. The epic battle was scored by a panel of three featured judges including Mijune Pak from Follow Me Foodie and culinary journalists from the Province and Vancouver Sun.

Each team was provided with a Black Box containing agave syrup, corn nuts, and cheddar cheese as the secret ingredients to add to their new creations. Re-Up BBQ cooked up a scrumptious Santa Fe style chilli, while Memphis Blues presented a tantalizing trio of Asian-inspired pulled pork dishes. So who was the ultimate victor of this mighty hog battle? None other than Robert Luft — who won the judges over with his truffle oil infused mac ‘n’ cheese with a splash of bourbon!

At 12:30pm on Saturday, February 25th, Memphis Blues’ Park and George will return to the 2012 BC Home & Garden Show at BC Place Stadium for a featured presentation on ribs and brisket, and tips on how you can turn your own barbecue into a smoker. Memphis Blues Barbeque House will also maintain a booth at the show for its entire run – from Wednesday to Sunday – featuring their all-new line up of Rubs and Sauces – perfect for the BBQ lover at home!
