Danica form Dvinewrites communications invited us to a menu sampling media event at R.TL aka Regional Tasting Lounge — a modern and stylish restaurant and lounge nestled in the heart of Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown district.
Created by sommelier Alain Canuel, mixologist Matt Martin, and Chef Darryl Crumb, R.TL’s menu is changed every three months to incorporate different featured regions. South American and local British Columbian flavours are currently highlighted on the menu.In regards to beverages, wines and sangria were served throughout the evening - our glasses were never empty! Two wines were poured by friendly servers, including Okanagan Valley’s La Stella ’08 Pinot Gris, and Chono Reserva ’07 Syrah originating from Elqui Valley, Chile. Their house sangria was sublime. This ‘ginger berry sangria’ consisted of red wine, brandy, peach liquer, ginger root, fresh blood oranges, blueberries, and ripe raspberries.
Six varieties of canapes were served, including their ‘prawn ceviche’ with cilantro yellow corn salsa, and organic quinoa salad. A rich and creamy ‘wild mushroom risotto’, and their ‘chipotle mussels’ were cooked in a white wine chipotle butter broth with aromatic herbs. ‘Venison burger duo’ included sliders of foie gras, wild mushroom and cheddar on sliced, grilled baguette. For dessert a ‘sweet & tart apple duo’ was presented - essentially a warm apple turnover with aged cheddar and fragrant spiced apple cider. and we were presented with samples
