Maria’s Souvlaki is a casual Greek restaurant with relaxed informal indoor and outdoor seating. Since it is a deli style establishment, customers place their orders at the counter, choose to sit wherever their want, and servers will bring their food to them promptly.
Located on 2nd Street, just off of Beacon Avenue, this is one of Sidney’s best places to eat – and we eat here a lot! Why do we love Maria’s so much? For starters, their food is consistent in quality and taste. Also, they provide dependable, quick, efficient and friendly service, and the establishment is always super clean. It’s no wonder Maria’s has such loyal customers.
Whenever we visit my family on the island, we often stop in at Maria’s to grab a quick bite before we catch the ferry back to the mainland. We always order chicken souvlaki wraps, hummus, and calamari. We can depend of Maria’s calamari to be cooked to perfection – soft & tender, and lightly battered. Their tzaziki sauce and humus are both excellent, and made in-house. Greek restaurants in BC usually offer a thicker, chunkier hummus as opposed to the thinner & smoother Middle Eastern kind. Maria’s hummus is wonderful – terrifically thick and hearty, with aromatic garlic cut ever so slightly by bright lemony flavour.
As you can see from the above photos, we dove right into our food before first snapping some pics – that’s how great Maria’s is – we couldn’t wait to chow-down! Have you been to Maria’s? What do you think? We think Maria’s Souvlaki is the best casual Greek food on Vancouver Island.
