Chinese food in Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is difficult to find as there are only a handful of Chinese restaurants in the area. At the top of the small list a is a popular American restaurant chain, Panda Express, who calls themselves “Gourmet Chinese Food”!
Located on Makala Boulevard, in the same strip mall as Taco Del Mar and Ultimate Burger, Panda Express serves tasty western-style Chinese food at reasonable prices.
Plenty of deep-fried goodness include such favorites as Orange Chicken (Hunan province style dish prepared with crispy boneless chicken bites tossed in a wok with their “secret” sweet and spicy orange sauce), and Honey Walnut Shrimp (tempura prawns with honey and topped with glazed walnuts).
Above is a 2-Entree Plate that includes a choice of two meat and/or vegetable mains with one side of either steamed white rice, fried rice, chow mein, or mixed vegetables. You can add a third entree to your plate for only $1.25. Super tasty items (albeit a little greasy) with generous portions make Panda Express a fast food winner. However, who would call this place “gourmet”?
