Brunch at Provence Marinaside Restaurant Review

Provence Marinaside is a French influenced restaurant located in Yaletown, on Marinaside Cresent. (Not to be confused with their other location Provence Mediterranean Grill on West 10th).

Since it was a Sunday morning, we had to wait 30 minutes to get a table.  Sure, I thought, we’ve heard great things about this place so it should definitely be worth the wait…

My husband ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, which was served on corn pancakes. The pancakes were so tiny, you can’t even seem them in the photo.

I ordered the Shrimp Eggs Benny, served on a croissant. The croissant was almost non-existent –  they used only one HALF of a croissant and then cut THAT in half…skimpy if you ask me. I was disappointed because I love croissants! I know the kitchen wasn’t running out of croissants because there was a huge tray of them on the counter at the front entrance.

The sauce looked and tasted more like a beurre blanc instead of a hollandaise – also a little disappointing because I love hollandaise! The hashbrowns were good enough, crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. The presentation seemed a little haphazard, like the cook was in a rush and just threw everything on the plate.

Thumbs up: Great location in Yaletown, overlooking False Creek. Thumbs down: The Coffee, yes regular drip, was $3.50 plus tax – not worth it. That’s more than a latte at Starbucks. Also, the ambiance was sooo loud – maybe because the restaurant is huge and it was brunch on a Sunday. And well, the food…Maybe it’s better for dinner?

Overall, Provence was ok but didn’t live up to all the hype. If you’re looking for a great eggs benny, then I would suggest trying Cafe Zen in Kits.
