La Casita Tacos in Vancouver’s West End


Finding great food in Vancouver’s West End is an easy thing to do. We have such fantastic options that you can practically take a trip around the globe with your taste buds. La Casita Tacos (located at the end of Robson Street at Denman) has been open just over seven months now and has been a hit with both tourists and residents alike. The restaurant serves up traditional pinche tacos and tasty beverages with a selection of fresh made sauces and salsas that will make your mouth sing!


Offering up lunch, dinner and free deliver service in the downtown, West End, Gastown and Yaletown areas after 5pm, you’re sure to be able to get your taco fix. They also provide full catering service for parties and offices. With La Casita Tacos located a couple of minutes away from my apartment I was happy to make a visit for Eating in Vancouver to La Casita and share some of my favorite tacos and ways to top them.


The heart of La Casita is their fresh salsa bar that is filled with a great selection of traditional, family recipe salsas and sauces. My favourite salsas and toppings for my tacos range from the mild smoky chilli-based recipes, but I also love the hot green tomatillo which has a spiciness that stuck with me for the rest of the day. To finish off my tacos I always add some of the pickled onions for a bright finish and some crunch.


Each morning the chef is in the kitchen preparing the proteins for the day with some taking up to 6 hours to braise—the big copper pot is kept busy all day. The tacos are 4 for $10 and you can choose from pork, beef, chicken and fish options. They don’t skimp out on the meats; you get your tacos plain and top them at the salsa bar and I’m glad they use two corn tortillas for each taco.


All of the tacos I got were delicious, but my favourites were the Mexican Chorizo, a pork chop taco and the Beef Lengua – aka tongue. Everything was seasoned beautifully and the meats all had a good amount of moisture.
