Coco Et Olive is a little French-style café in Kitsilano (Broadway & Collingwood), complete with “couldn’t care less” service, the French are renowned for. [FYI: They have another location on Main & East 21st.]
My hot chocolate was excellent; thick, rich and creamy, and served in a cute bowl-sized cup. Gary enjoyed his strong iced-coffee. The panini was decent enough, although its bread was slightly over-grilled and bordering on burnt. We ordered a few almond pastries – they were good, although we’ve had better. I enjoyed their dense and lightly sweet chocolate torte a whole lot more.
Foodosophy described Coco Et Olive’s clientele rather accurately:
“… it’s filled with people from the neighborhood who clearly have more than their share of free time. My assumption of this is based on the fact that a) there’s a lot of older folks who probably don’t have to work for a living anymore due to age, and b) younger uppity people who look like they are well off and don’t need to work”.
Yup, that pretty much sums it up! Food was marginal, although their beverages were excellent. If you’re looking for French cafes in Kitsilano, check out La Petite France and Plaisir Sucre.
