La Taqueria is a little taco shop serving authentic Mexican tacos — this ain’t no Tex-Mex joint! Their tacos are created with locally-made soft corn tortillas, and they use traditional Mexican recipes with local, organic and sustainable ingredients whenever possible.
Located on West Hastings & Hamilton, in downtown Vancouver, this taco shop is long and very narrow, and can get pretty cramped during peak hours. Stool seating is provided along the brick walls and pastel blue counters, so this is the kind of place to grab a small lunch or quick snack – instead of lingering leisurely over your meal. Our food was very quick to arrive and only took approximately 5 minutes for our name to be called.
Their limited menu offers tacos and quesadillas only. We ordered 4 Meat Tacos for $9.50 (or 1 for $2.50): Pollo Con Mole – Maple Hills chicken with a chocolate mole sauce. Pescado – grilled fish with pico de gallo. Al Pastor – Chilliwack pork marinated in chili, achiote, and pineapple. Arrochera – house marinated AAA skirt beef. All tacos were served with cilantro, chopped onion, and lime. The ingredients were all extremely fresh and flavourful, and I would have to say the chicken mole was my favourite. Although not the cheapest or largest tacos in town (nor located in the best neighborhood), they were definitely authentic and tasty. Additionally, the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Overall, La Taqueria is the perfect spot for authentic Mexican tacos in Vancouver! Have you been? What do you think about La Taqueria?
