Little Nest Review – Local, Organic & Kid-Friendly Café

I had read a lot of positive reviews about Little Nest, and had been eager to try it. My only apprehension was that it seems as though many high-rated restaurants often fall short. Take Jethro’s Fine Grub for example – raw pancakes, terrible service – a total letdown. However, Little Nest did not disappoint!

Yesterday, we finally headed over to Little Nest just off Commercial Drive (on Charles Street) for breakfast. We were warmly greeted by staff, promptly seated and were directed to place our order at the counter after we had perused their menu on the wall. Since they serve up local and organic fare whenever possible, their menu changes quite often. Bonus: They serve all day breakfast 9am-3pm, 7 days a week!

Little Nest is decorated in a casual retro 70′s style, and is a kid-friendly café. The restaurant has a warm and inviting vibe, with a homey and relaxing atmosphere.

Little Nest doesn’t offer drip coffee, but its staff make a fantastic organic + fair trade Ethical Bean Americano ($2.45). Stevia sweetener is even provided for beverages on the cream/sugar station.

Eggs of the Day ($12.00) – Scrambled eggs with Cuban style pulled pork, black beans, citrus arugula salad with orange vinaigrette, braised plantain, and a toasted baguette. The pulled pork was extremely tender, the beans were packed with flavour, the salad was fresh and fragrant, and the meal included a generous serving of eggs. The only item we didn’t enjoy was the plantain because it was too starchy for our liking.

Brioche French Toast ($12.00) – With organic bananas, vanilla whipped cream, maple syrup and sliced toasted almonds. Oh my heavens was this delicious! Optimally ripe bananas and creamy whip on top of thick cut slightly sweet brioche bread, all paired nicely with the crunchy texture of the nuts. Absolute perfection.

Loved everything about this cute café! It’s not just a great spot for children, people of all ages will adore this restaurant :)

Really, you were warmly greeted/seated/then directed to order at the front counter… The owner doesn’t even to bother to hold the door for you as she looks you straight in the eye while you’re struggling with a stroller to get in the door. Staff have never been warm or prompt with me or my toddler- makes me think twice, thrice about supporting this place and putting Mary’s boys through college…
