There’s a reason chain restaurants are so popular in Vancouver: if they offer consistent food & service, they bring people back time and time again.
Joey’s on Broadway & Hemlock, in Fairview is no exception. The restaurant is very large and spacious, with extra high ceilings, lots of patio dining and best of all – pretty decent food!
Upon arrival with some friends of ours, we were greeted by the hostess with complimentary non-alcoholic cocktails while we waited for our table. A nice touch. (Our friends happened to be pregnant at the time, so virgin drinks suited them just fine!)
Caesar Salad ($6.49) – a starter size with garlic croutons and grana padano parmesan. Fresh romaine, crunchy croutons and yummy parmesan cheese. It almost looks like there’s no dressing on this salad, but there was actually just the right amount. I often find that restaurants over-dress their salads, so I usually order dressing on the side – no need for this caesar.
Baja Fish Tacos ($11.99) – crispy fish and shrimp, wrapped in soft corn tortillas, served with lime, guacamole, cilantro and Mexican hot sauce. Wow were these ever good! They tasted just like the Baja style tacos we’ve had in Southern California. I was definitely surprised to eat delicious fish tacos at a chain restaurant, and in Vancouver no less. It’s always a challenge to find great tacos in the lower mainland.
Ahi Tuna Club ($14.99) – grilled rare tuna loin with smoked bacon, red pepper relish, arugula and panko onion rings served with fries. Perfection. The Ahi was grilled perfectly and tasted extremely fresh. Excellent fries were served pipping hot and the portion was large.
Our server she seemed new and inexperienced – but attentive nonetheless. Overall, we all had great meals and enjoyed our experience at Joey’s on Broadway.
