Are you looking for some cheap all day breakfast spots in Kitsilano? There are a few tiny cafes and diners around that offer cheap breakfast. One of them is Evelyn’s Cafe and Grill, off the 2200 block of West Broadway.
We pass by Evelyn’s all the time, but never had a chance to try it until now. It’s hard to spot as it’s on the ground floor of a large medical building, near the Steve Nash Fitness World. Evelyn’s Cafe serves soups, sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, and a small Chinese menu. They are only open business hours Monday-Saturday, and close early at 5:30pm (4pm on Saturdays). Their menu reflects the clientele in their area, which consists of people popping in and out of the medical building.
Upon entering Evelyn’s Cafe and Grill, you’ll notice it’s a cozy dining spot. You place and pay for your order at the counter. There is an amazing breakfast special for $3.75 that includes 2 eggs, toast, and hashbrowns. For $1 more you can add 3 strips of bacon, sausage, or ham. Taya and I each got the special with bacon and it arrived quickly in under 10 minutes.
Breakfast was piping hot, and the bacon was crispy just the way I like it. My eggs were done over easy, and perfect enough that I could dip my toast into the yolk (come on, I know you do it too). Taya’s over hard eggs were cooked well through, but not overdone. The homestyle potatoes were made in house with the skin on, and our whole wheat toast was lightly buttered. It was a damn good breakfast.
The coffee served was from Far Coast and the large mug was only $1.67. Refills were extra but the amount was just right. You’ll also find tonnes of condiments right on the table including Heinz Ketchup, Saracha, maple syrup, etc. Water is available self serve on the side table.
We enjoyed our breakfast at Evelyn’s Cafe and Grill, and the best part was the reasonable price. Under $15 for breakfast for two, you can’t beat that. We’ll be back soon for lunch too.
