Blenz “The Canadian Coffee Company” has over thirty-five international coffee shops in countries such Japan, China and even the U.A.E. With an impressive fifty locations in Canada, the company opened its very first coffee shop on downtown Vancouver’s Robson Street in 1992. Fast forward to the end of 2009, Blenz opened in Kitsilano’s Pulse condominium development.
Blenz at Pulse is located on West Broadway & Maple, situated right beside Greens Organic + Natural Market. Since it’s a relatively newer store, it’s clean, nicely decorated and has a warm ambiance. It’s a large and bright shop, and in the summer months they open up their floor to ceiling windows to make the place feel even more expansive.
Open late (until 11pm), it’s a popular spot for studious university students with their noses in textbooks. You’ll also find ambitious entrepreneurs hunched over their laptops at all hours of the day, and Kits moms on coffee dates with their friends after yoga class.
Complimentary two-hour wifi is provided, however, you need to request tickets from the cashier in order to access the internet. The only downside is that internet reliability seems intermittent. If you get disconnected, then you usually cannot use the same code to reconnect. Unlike a lot of other coffee shops, this Blenz location has plenty of plugs, so you never have to worry about your laptop battery dying.
The staff are cordial and engaging and are always eager to whip up one of their signature drinks. Antioxidant rich Iced Matcha Lattes, their trademarked FruitChillos and Rooibos Chai Tea Lattes are some of their most popular drinks, while Belgian milk chocolate flavoured Blenz Hot Chocolate is my personal favourite hot beverage that they serve. When it comes to chain coffee shops, I’m generally more of a Starbucks frequenter, but this Blenz location is a great Kitsilano “coffice“.
