Quince Review – Café, Cooking School, Catering & Boutique Food Shop

Quince is a quadruple thread on the Vancouver food scene – it’s a café, boutique food shop, cooking school, and caterer. Located in the Armoury District near Granville Island (3rd & Burrard), it has been delighting its customers since 2005.

As a boutique food shop, Quince Express, specializes in un-synthesized, transparent and natural restaurant quality vacuum packed food to go. Their products are labelled with a simple dot system to support easy-to-prepare meals.

  • Blue – heat & serve, fully cooked
  • Yellow – seared & seasoned, finish cooking
  • Red – marinated, but not cooked
  • Green – raw, eat as is

They offer everything your heart could desire – fresh baked good likes cakes, pastries, and breads;  meats and seafood like Wild Dungeness Crab Cakes, and Sumac Spice Tiger Prawn & Scallop Skewers; specialty cheeses; homemade sauces and even hearty, made from scratch soups like Garam Masala Squash.

The Quince Studio offers private cooking classes and corporate team building events. Quince Catering offers everything from platters for pick up for DIY catering, to full service catering for any cocktail party.

I used to work in the area, and would always come in to the café for one of their excellent lattes. They really do make the perfect latte – just the right amount of foam, milk, and strong espresso. On this occasion, I stopped by for a latte (of course) and a quick lunch. Their lattes are so good that I forgot to snap a photo until I was half way through my beverage.

Soup & Sandwich ($10.75) -  Grilled chicken, cheese and tomato panini with a side salad of organic greens, beets, chickpeas, Salt Spring Island goat cheese, and broccoli tossed in a tangy vinaigrette. Both the panini and salad were incredibly fresh and delicious. The warm panini was oozing with melted cheese and juicy chicken, and all the ingredients in the salad tasted like they had just been freshly picked from the garden and were bursting with flavour.

Overall, Quince is your one-stop-shop for all your culinary needs. Check it out the next time you’re planning a dinner party, need a quick ready-to-go meal for your family, or are interested in cooking classes.
