Spitfire Bar & Grill Review (Sidney, BC)

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Spitfire Bar & Grill is a great casual restaurant anytime of the day. Located beside the Victoria International Airport, on Vancouver Island, this grill is especially fantastic for families with kids who will be memorized watching the planes taking off and landing.

We stopped by Spitfire for dinner on Wednesday evening, and tried their beef and chicken burgers, fish & chips, and meal salad. Our server was excellent; really friendly and attentive.

Spinach Salad (Main course $10.95/ Half order $6.00) – Fresh baby spinach with bacon, hard-boiled egg, pecans, sautéed red onion & a light vinaigrette. Feeling like you need a larger protein fix? Add chicken or shrimp for $4.00. Although this was the meal sized-portion, with additional chicken, it was not enough food for my brother. However, if you’re a slight eater, it might be a substantial size to fill you up. Despite not living up to the dinner serving size he was expecting, my brother described his meal as fresh and flavourful.

Halibut & Chips ($12.95) – One piece fresh halibut with fries and coleslaw. Add a second piece of fish for $4.00. With a medium amount of crispy batter, the halibut was an average sized piece. Although it looks like a tiny amount of coleslaw in the photo, it was the perfect serving for my dad. We all adored these wedge fries! Lightly seasoned, thick-cut potatoes, and deep-fried to a golden crunchiness.

Spitfire Burger ($12.50) – Juicy, char-grilled all-beef patty with cheddar, mushrooms and bacon, and topped with lettuce, tomato, onions and a pickle. Served with a choice of daily soup, garden salad or fat wedge fries. You can even substitute Caesar salad, onion rings or yam fries for just two bucks. We enjoyed how the burgers were served in a cheddar cheese kaiser roll. Another bonus was that cheese, mushrooms and bacon came with the burgers, unlike other restaurants that charge extra for each of those toppings. We ordered a side of brown gravy ($1.00) that took those glorious wedge fries to another level!

Spicy Chicken Burger ($12.95) – Hot and spicy seasoned grilled whole chicken breast with a slice of mozzarella cheese, and topped with green leaf lettuce, sliced tomatoes and onions. Also served with a choice of soup, salad or thick cut wedge fries. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked – not even a touch of pink remained on the white meat, but it still stayed moist and juicy. Honestly, they could not have created a better chicken burger, or superior fries.

Spitfire Bar & Grill is a great family restaurant, serving fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices – you’ll love their burgers and thick cut, seasoned wedge fries!
